Match stock and DPI

Select the exact physical width and height and the printer's native 203, 300 or 600 DPI resolution.

Open the ten-test Label Set in the app, or generate its PDF and print at Actual size / 100% with driver margins disabled.

Measure, correct, repeat

Read or fold the center ruler, then use the separate 1 mm corner marks and numbered side rulers before comparing tones and fine lines.

Turn the printed result into a diagnosis

Each sheet isolates a different failure mode so you can distinguish software scaling from media alignment, darkness or mechanical feed problems.

Ruler measures the wrong length

The application or print dialog is scaling the page. Use Actual size / 100% and confirm the driver paper size matches the label.

The fold misses the crosshair

Fold opposite edges together in each direction. The distance between the crease and printed center shows the horizontal or vertical print offset.

Corner marks disappear unevenly

The first visible 0–15 mm marks reveal outside margins and rounded-corner cuts. Different results across corners can indicate offset, skew or inconsistent cutting.

Dark grayscale blocks merge

Reduce darkness or heat, or increase print speed. Excess heat makes narrow gaps and barcode spaces close up.

Light blocks or fine lines disappear

Clean the printhead, slow the printer or increase darkness gradually. Missing sections in the same position can indicate damaged dots.

Registration shifts down the label

Calibrate the gap or black-mark sensor and confirm label height and gap size in the printer driver.

What the calibration suite tests

This tool generates diagnostic artwork rather than a generic operating-system test page.

Center, margins and corner cuts

  • Center-origin millimetre rulers and a crosshair sit at the mathematical center, including on odd label dimensions.
  • Folding opposite edges provides a simple physical check of print centering.
  • A separate sheet uses unconnected L-marks every 1 mm from each edge to expose margins and rounded-corner cuts.
  • Matching midpoint rulers on all four sides label 5, 10 and 15 mm for faster reading.
  • Registration marks show repeated movement through the feed direction.

Density, text and resolution

  • Ten grayscale blocks reveal usable darkness separation.
  • Positive and negative text ladders test exact point sizes.
  • Separate horizontal and vertical lines compare both printer axes.
  • Nominal point widths and native 1–6 dot lines expose real DPI limits.
  • Three QR sizes reveal the readable dots-per-module threshold.

Thermal printer calibration FAQ

Why must I print the calibration PDF at 100% or Actual size?

Fit to page and shrink-to-fit settings change the physical dimensions, so the center, margin and corner-mark measurements can no longer diagnose the printer accurately.

Which DPI should I choose for my thermal printer?

Choose the printer’s native resolution: commonly 203, 300 or 600 DPI. The PDF is rasterized at that resolution so fine-line results correspond to printable dots.

How do I check whether the print is centered?

Print the center-ruler and fold-alignment test at Actual size. Read the center-origin scale or fold opposite label edges together in each direction; both creases should meet the printed crosshair.

Can I create a custom thermal label test size?

Yes. Choose Custom size, enter width and height in millimetres or inches, then open the test at that size in LabelFlow Pro or generate an exact-size SVG or PDF.

Can I choose which calibration labels to print from the test set?

Yes. Open the complete ten-test set in LabelFlow Pro, choose Preview, then include or exclude individual test labels before printing or downloading the selected pages as PDF.
